Kevin Love Handshake Incident

Most of you guys probably remember the Kevin Love/Wes Johnson handshake incident earlier this season when Love was at the free throw line. Well they made a vid about it. Pretty funny, check it out....

Hov vs. Fat Joe @ The Rucker

This vid was posted up on Worldstar a couple months ago, and the piece itself is probably older than that but I never got around to watching it until now.

A VERY interesting piece on the whole Jay-Z vs. Fat Joe Rucker Park beef, what went down between their respective squads, and the game that never was.

If you know about the Rucker or follow NYC basketball you need to take a look.

Birthday Week + NYC WBF Maestro Vid

I got another year older this week. I turned 23 on Tuesday (August 3rd). Shout to everyone that made it what it was, throughout out the day.

After work I went out for a nice dinner and later I hit the bar with some of the homies. While we were over there, we ran into Lance Thomas. Lance, for those that don't know, was Duke's starting power forward on their 2010 National Championship team.

Duke is my SQUAD.

Now Lance is from NJ, as am I (and are all of my boys). Coindentally, my former college roommate and homie, J-Serv who was there with me played AAU ball with Lance back in high scool. (Jon is from Linden, Lance from Scotch Plains) They recognized each other and started choppin it up.

The homie B and I hadda holla at Lance and let it be known we hold down Duke at all times. 2010 National Champs man and we aimin' for a repeat.

Ended up bein a real dope birthday.

Came across another Maestro vid too. Found his whole Vimeo channel with a bunch of vids, some of which I'll post up, but this is his most recent. Centered around NYC basketball, with the WBF (World Basketball Festival) comin to NY this week, the clip features various bball players and enthusiasts throughout the different boroughs in NYC. Definitely a good watch.

Interesting theory on school and photography

Apparently I'm late.

I dont't know who "Maestro" is or what he's about but I just stumbled onto this vid on my dude Dre Eastwood's blog - Dreeastwood.com
(Peep that when you get a chance, a lot of great pics and other good material on there)

His theory on school (and photography) really caught my attention. It doesn't apply to me, per say, but I definitely see where dude is coming from.

This vid is from a couple months back but it's a good watch. I'm gonna see what else I can dig up on this cat...

"A Letter to David Lee" by Christian Waterman

dlee

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last month or so you've heard about what's been going on with the NBA. It was free agency. It was Lebron James, it was D-Wade, it was Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, and Joe Johnson. It was the Knicks, the Heat, the Cavs, the Bulls, etc. etc.

One of these days I'll go into detail about how I feel about this offseason as a whole. How I feel about what Lebron did (and didn't do), and the job that Donnie Walsh, our President of Basketball Operations managed to pull off to get our team headed back in the right direction.

One of the unfortunate consequences of the Knicks acquiring All-Star power forward Amare Stoudemire during this free agency period, was that in doing so, we likely had to say goodbye to David Lee. We couldn't get one AND keep the other, while maintaining the salary cap flexibility we want for the future. So the other day we signed and traded D-Lee to the Golden State Warriors (for Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, Ronny Turiaf, and a 2nd round pick. A TREMENDOUS move considering we could have lost our boy and got nothing in return since he was a free agent)

Well, this post is dedicated to Lee. He got buckets. He got boards. He hustled his ass off. He did the dirty work. He played hard, with respect, and with passion. He put up with the losing. And he never complained.

Courtesy of Christian Waterman, by way of Slam Magazine, this letter was worth quoting. D-Lee, we'll miss you bruh.

dlee2

Dear David Lee,

Parting is such sweet sorrow. At the beginning of this tumultuous offseason, I hoped to see you form the most dynamic of pick-and-roll duos with one LeBron James. In expressing these views to fellow fans, I was told that signing Amar’e or Joe would be more of an attraction to the Chosen 1/3rd. Of course I did not want to believe, after hearing that you’d been working on your 3-point range, that you may be suiting up in colors other than royal and orange. I didn’t want to believe.

When STAT announced “The Knicks are back!” it all but sealed the envelope on your Knicks tenure. Like the thousands of other Knicks fans that have followed your career since 2005, I was devastated. In a time of absolute destitution, you and Kryptonate showed youthful exuberance, displaying grit and heart on a team that tragically lacked it at times. I’ve never seen you dog it, attacking the boards because it was the right thing to do; I’ve never seen you complain to coaches, or have any of the attitude issues that plague some of the league’s finest.

Mr. Lee, thank you. Thank you for that tip-in versus the Bobcats. Thank you for that ridiculous triple-double against the Warriors. Thank you for your ambidexterity. Thank you for developing your jumper. Thank you for posting and toasting, wheeling and dealing, dishing and swishing, spinning and winning (well, not too much winning–Ed.). Thank you for being an All-Star center, as your full potential will only be unlocked as a power forward. Thank you for putting up with the losing, giving us someone to look to as a bright spot in a dark abyss that has been the last decade in Knicks history.

As Mr. James took his plea deal instead of fighting the good fight on the road to becoming a basketball legend, word arose that you would be heading to the Yay. I thought of two things–one, Donnie Walsh is a wizard and two, what if we hadn’t gotten sniped in last year’s draft and Steph Curry was our starting point guard. Obviously we’d be looking at much different picture, like maybe LeBron decides not to start chasing rings at 25 and realizes his potential for greatness as a Knickerbocker. Maybe the core of Steph, Gallo, Bron, and yourself with young talent like Bill Walker and TD is enough to put one in the rafters for 2010-11. But such is life.

The Knicks seem to be on the rise, and it sucks that you won’t be here to participate in the resurrection. But as you “take your talents” out west, to join another rebuilding mission, the fans there should know that you’re already a warrior. It’s been a great run, and now even more people will get to witness the workman’s mentality and skill set that can propel you to become an all-time great. It’s players like you who make this thing worth watching, worth investing time and money into, because we’re getting something in return.

The day after, I didn’t take to the streets to burn my David Lee memorabilia. I wore the #42 with pride on that day, a proper sendoff for a player who did everything he could to win, even when winning seemed illogical. One game juts out in my memory, the tough road win against the Sixers as you played through the pain (R.I.P. E. Desmond Lee) and hit the game-winner. It’s just one of many examples of how you helped restore us to relevance after being a laughing stock for too long. It’s doubtful that I will become a Warriors fan just because of this trade, but I’ll be watching.
Play well, Dave. We’ll all be watching.

Sincerely,
A True Knicks Fan

I'm Beaming

After coming across this track I found out that it leaked a while ago, and even though the album hasn't released this has been in a circulation for some time now.

Well, this is the video for Lupe's 1st single off his next album titled "Lasers" Unfortunately, it doesn't have a drop date yet.

The song is definitely good money though.

Lupe, hurry up bruh...

C'mon Lebron!

APTOPIX Yankees Indians Baseball

Whether you follow sports or not, you know who Lebron James is. You also probably know that he's a free agent and any and every team with enough salary cap space to sign is hoping he leaves Cleveland and signs with them.

The Knicks are one of those teams, and we've now officially begun the "C'mon Lebron!" NYC Campaign for him to sign with New York.

People with pull from all over the city are trying their best to help recuit Lebron. Offers are being extended that range professional chefs willing to cook him free meals on the regular, to owners of strip clubs telling him he's got free lap dances and whatever else he wants when he sets foot inside the club.

Here's Mayor Bloomberg's pitch. This is too funny, while at the same time incredibly dope. Willis Reed on one leg? Clyde with the steal?....C'MON LEBRON!

Peg Sighting Courtesy of Capo

Jim Jones feat. Sen City - Younger

A new joint from Jimmy, I like the beat and the track is aight but the real reason I'm postin up is because of the video itself, shot (mostly) at Peg.

"Uptown Jiggy Sports" formerly known as "Pegsaus" (in addition to Cap City in Jersey) really is THE fitted spot. Cats from all over make they way out to East 109th to cop. It's always dope to see a place you hit on the regular makin a cameo in a music vid.

"Thank you Jesus!"

Watchin this clip I couldn't help but think of Momma Payne. LOL.

They have arrived...

My Kobe V IDs came in, and they did not disappoint...

I'm very satisfied with the way they came out.

NY Knicks inspired, of course. What yall think?

Spelling Bee Highlights

Yea you read right.

Every year ESPN airs the Scripps National Spelling Bee. A spelling bee like most of us had at one point or another in elementary or middle school, except these kids are brainiacs and are given CRAZY words, some of which I never knew existed.

Most of the time its on during the day and I dont get to watch cause I'm at work or in class, but Sportscenter usually recaps. ESPN just threw together this highlight clip from the last few years, since its about that time for this years contest.

I dont think the Indian kid fainting will ever be topped...

Irony.

Interview is a little less than a year old.

Listen to this man tell the story about what was goin on in his life after he graduated college...

Why is this entry titled "Irony"?
Because he found himself at a telemarketing job working phones for a Queens newspaper AFTER he finished school, just to make ends meet. He kept grindin until shit fell into place for him.

Where did I find myself 2 months after graduating from St. John's?
With the New Jersey Nets in the ticket sales department. Cool? Not really.
I was essentially a telemarketer, makin $8.50/hr (yea that's right) plus comission, to hustle people over the phone to buy tickets, just to get hung up on most of the time.

I decided quick fast that wasn't why I went to college. So after a year of looking for a "career" and not just a "job", and coming up empty handed, I took things as a sign from God.

A sign to stop being worried about whether or not I could handle graduate school, or if I would be in over my head if I got accepted. I decided if I could land a Graduate Assistant position to cover tuition, going back to get my Master's would be a much better option than anything else out there.

Low and behold, I applied for grad school, got in, and landed the GA position too. Now I'm going back to Queens in the fall to get my Master's in Sports Management. Go figure.

I was always a realistic dude, but not long ago I came across this quote and it really hit me...

Being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity.

You never know until you try, real talk. I'm giving things a shot now, not hoping that they work out, but expecting them to.

God bless.

How-to-Make-it-in-America

HBO's "How To Make It America".

If you watch the series then you already know what it is.

If you're not familiar with it, watch this vid featuring the intro to the series. This was the best show on tv for the last few months till it recently wrapped up its 1st season.

How To Make It In America Intro from Bert Stragier on Vimeo.

After some back and forth about whether or not the show would get picked up for its second season, word got out last week that HBO made it official.

Ben, Cam, Capo and the rest of them will be back for another go'round. GREAT news.

If you have HBO but never saw the show you owe it yourself to check it out On Demand. If not, you can get the episodes at HBO.com

Here's a little behind the scenes piece on some of the characters.

If this show, it's storyline, and it's soundtrack don't make you want to go out and get your hustle on there might be something wrong with you.

Stay up and God Bless.

j-cole-source

For those of yall that have been followin this shit since its inception over a year ago, you might remember one of my first entries bein about a Wale show I went to in SoHo last April with my homies.

I mentioned that I wasn't really feelin any of the opening acts at that show, except for this dude named J. Cole. Little did I know how much he would blow up soon thereafter, or how much of a fan of his music I would become (not to mention that he's a St. John's graduate like yours truly).

If you dont know by now he's put out a few mixtapes, including "The Come Up", "The Warm Up", and "A Nigga from the 'Ville". He was featured on a "A Star is Born" on Hov's Blueprint 3, "Beautiful Bliss" on Wale's Attention Deficit, and recently got his own cover of "The Source".

There's a lot of other stuff I'm leavin out but you can probably see that dude is comin up.

Well it dawned on me a little while ago that dude has already become the rapper I rock with the most after Jay-Z. I don't think anyone will take over Hov's spot on MY list but Cole has already pushed himself to number 2. I fuck with dude heavy and find myself bumpin his shit regularly, as much as Hov's and more than anyone elses.

J. Cole - Grown Simba from Report2Detention on Vimeo.

Grown Simba (the live performance vid shown above and one of his first tracks), Dreams, Knock Knock, I Get Up, Carolina on my Mind, Dead Presidents I and II freestyles (ESPECIALLY I), I Got It, Last Call, School Daze...I'm tellin yall the list goes on.

Might seem like dude is payin me to write this entry but trust, I'm just tryna spread the word. If you dont know dude yet, give him a listen.

I'll leave yall wit this.....

These 2 used to straight wage wars.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Well this is one image that will forever remind me of not only my teenage years, but of a great era in the NBA, a great rivalry between two players, and of course, classic footwear.

KG was THE man in Minny. 20-10-5 on a regular basis. No one else could say that.

And I can't forget H2O in the background.

amazing

Britney Griner vs. Mr. 720

So I found out that Britney Griner (the freshman center for the Baylor Bears girls basketball team who dunks like its nothin) and Mr. 720 aka Air Up There locked themselves in a gym not too long ago and had a dunk contest.

As random as that shit is, the vid is pretty crazy. Griner pulls off some VERY impressive dunks but when its all said and done its 720 in a landslide.

Dude was dunkin like he was mad at the rim. See for yourself...

Window Seat

Erykah Badu's music vid for her new track "Window Seat" has some people talkin.

Watch it and you'll see why....

Who knew Erykah was stacked like that? My GOODNESS.

Aside from that, the creativity is off the charts though. Very interesting concept.

I feel like I can vibe with this track, and Im curious to hear the rest of the album.

Word on the street is the spot ended up selling (well, raffling) around 48 pairs to the public after receiving over 100 but there is no concrete info regarding that estimation.

Thanks to an assist from a good friend, I was able to end up with a pair for myself which you see here.
The release was wild, and definitely mishandled but luckily for me I was in the right place at the right time and walked away satisfied.

I've been left in the dark on more exclusive releases than I care to remember, so maybe this was karma workin its magic.

Who knows?

Probably damn near all of yall can appreciate this.

Air Max Family

How yall doin? Its been a while...

I knew for the last few weeks though that once my last pair of AM1 IDs came in that I wanted to gather all my air maxes and snap some pics.
I took the one that came out the best and well, what you'll see below is my air max collection.

Croppedgroup

On another note,

I came across these 95s on the JDsports site a couple weeks back, for those of you who dont know JD is a company/site/store based in the UK. They're pretty much a clothing/sneaker store but they regularly get exclusive Nike colorways that you cant find ANYWHERE else. So even though that US dollar to GBP conversion rate is a bitch, soon as I saw these I knew I had to have em.

I say it all the time, I go crazy for Knicks/Mets colorways (that are done right).
So after a couple weeks, a major hit on my bank account, and some BS customs fees I got my hands on these...

Final Air Max topic for today -

Retro Neon 95's are droppin tomorrow - 2/27. Originally slated for March, they got pushed up a little earlier. Should be at local shops and footlockers, as well as Eastbay. Nike.com should have em too. Regardless of whether or not the shades of grey/neon have changed over the years, these are a true classic you can't go wrong in purchasing.

(The windrunner is a must too, if you can get your hands on it)

Bespoke AF1

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I consider myself well-versed when it comes to Nike ID and the design process, but admittedly I have never created an AF1 "Bespoke" ID at 21 Mercer (one of the only places you CAN do a Bespoke ID, besides maybe NSW Montalban) and probably never will, mainly due to the pricetag which is somewhere in the high hundreds if Im not mistaken.

Either way, I just came across this vid of Amani Toomer, former NY Giants WR, at the Mercer studio. More interesting than his potential color and material combinations, was the actual look inside the studio, showcasing the materials, colors, and design process that go into making a "Bespoke" Air Force 1 ID.

Peep the vid.
